Holding Social Work Accountable: Resistance, Challenge and Change

Social work is charged with the overwhelming task of addressing social problems generated by an increasingly polarized and conflictual social world. History confirms that social work interventions can easily recreate injustice and oppression rather than create positive challenge and change. How can social work ensure that it is aligned with those building social justice and equity, rather than their opposite? Based on the stream at the Sociology conference held in Auckland in December we seek articles that explore any aspect of social work and social policy efforts to address social inequities and individual, community, social and political problems. We also welcome articles that explore the many ways that communities, individuals, families and practitioners resist difficult contexts, and challenge inequities and unfairness to create social change and social justice.
